Thank You Thank You Thank You! We cannot give enough thanks to everyone who made our PK Move Kick Off Party a success. (Click here to see the photographic evidence that good times were had!) We will let you know the final amount as soon as it’s tallied, but we believe we have raised enough to cover our insurance costs! Thank you to everyone who came or donated to support our mission of sharing the transformative power of parkour with special populations right here in Alexandria. We are especially grateful to our generous sponsors and donors:
Also, lots of stuff is happening:
- Tuesday, August 30th, the PK Silver “Hume Springs” class will meet in the Duncan Library at 10am
- Wednesday, August 31st, the PK Silver “Ft Ward” class will meet at Ft. Ward at 10am as usual.
- Thursday, September 1st, 6pm-until it gets dark, PK Move will be back at St. Elmo’s for Del Ray’s First Thursday! We will have a demo, some challenges for you to try, and lots of info to hand out. Please stop by and see us! (I heard St. Elmo’s is going to put some tasty, healthy smoothies on their menu too.)
- In the words of the late, great David Bowie: “Ch-ch-ch-changes!” Beginning in September, the Hume Spring Class is moving to Monday! However, NO CLASS on Labor Day, September 5th. Our first Monday class will be September 12th at 10am and we will return to Hume Springs Park.
You can still purchase tickets for the PK Move Kick-Off Party scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, August 27th, 6-10pm at St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub in Alexandria. It’s a great deal, plus supports a great cause.
We’d also like to thank event sponsor Patricius Tokaj! You can sip their 2014 Furmint at the party. It was given 90 points by “Wine Enthusiast.” Cheers!

Saturday, August 27th, 6-10pm: “PK Move Kick-Off Party” at St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub, 2300 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria, VA 22301. Please join us for a FUN evening of music, good food & drink, art, and more! Your ticket supports adapted parkour programs for special populations in Alexandria!
We will still meet at 10-11am on the remaining Tuesdays in August: 8/16, 8/23, 8/30.
However, due to the excessive heat, we will change to an indoor location. We have reserved the large meeting room (located next to the children’s section) at Duncan Library, 2501 Commonwealth Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22301. There is parking. It is also accessible by public transit.
Please click here for more information and a map.
Please note this is for Tuesday ONLY! There are no changes to our Wednesday PK Silver class at Ft Ward amphitheater which is located on a hill in heavy shade and always seems to have a breeze. We’ll just slow it down and take lots of water breaks.
Thank you for your understanding; your safety is our first priority! Please contact us directly if you have any questions.
Ducky is waiting for you at the library!
Today we hung the art show for this not-to-be-missed event which is only two weeks away!

Stocking up the bathroom supplies resulted in a toilet paper balance challenge. At PKMove,
we believe the joy of movement (pun intended) should be inherent to daily living. How many rolls can you walk with balanced on your head? Don’t forget to hashtag #toiletpaperbalancechallenge and please follow us on Instagram @pkmove for more photos of our activities!
We need your support! At PK Move, we offer low-cost functional fitness sessions to people who might normally be unable to take such a class due to financial, physical, mental, or other restraints. We are passionate about our parkour-based program which aims to build strength of body and mind, improve balance, flexibly and coordination, reconnect our participants with nature, and increase their confidence and creativity in a supportive environment. We’ve only been active in Alexandria for three months, yet so far, through community partnerships, we have been able to offer the following programs:
Two PK Silver classes per week (FUNctional fitness classes for seniors) in partnership with the City of Alexandria
Our PK School program assisted with parkour classes at the Wellness Day event at GWMS and we hope to be delivering more parkour for special education students at other area schools in the fall.
PK Pink serves Breast cancer survivors with an exercise and support meet-ups
Our PK Demo program allows for a brief introduction to parkour including a demonstration, group warm up and some low-key obstacle challenges. We have a demo at the National Night Out for Hune Spring Park, the Alexandris Police and Fire Department.
Our budget needs are relatively low, and with your support, we can largely cover our entire 2017 program costs with our August 27th “PKMove Kick-Off” fundraising event. Currently, we are a team of all-volunteer coaches; our biggest expenses are insurance as well as specialized coach training which will allow us to bring the transformative power of parkour to populations with specialized needs, such as local pediatric cancer patients.
This will help us meet our budget, allowing us to continue to share the transformative power of parkour with those in our community who would benefit the most. Please join us to build a healthier, stronger Alexandria. Purchase your tickets today and share with friends and bring a group. We are very grateful and thank you for your support!
