Ninja Reading Hour!

PK Move’s Ninja Reading Hour was amazing! We were excited to welcome 10 children and 7 adults for this interactive, movement-inspired literacy event which included songs, Story Time, ninja movement and parkour culture.

Favorite quote: “My son is very shy. I have never seen him get this excited and participate in a reading program before. He loved it!”
Many thanks to St Elmo’s Coffee Pub for hosting us. We’ll see you next month for more ninja magic!

Many Thanks & News!

Thank You Thank You Thank You! We cannot give enough thanks to everyone who made our PK Move Kick Off Party a success. (Click here to see the photographic evidence that good times were had!) We will let you know the final amount as soon as it’s tallied, but we believe we have raised enough to cover our insurance costs! Thank you to everyone who came or donated to support our mission of sharing the transformative power of parkour with special populations right here in Alexandria.  We are especially grateful to our generous sponsors and donors:

Also, lots of stuff is happening:

  • Tuesday, August 30th, the PK Silver “Hume Springs” class will meet in the Duncan Library at 10am
  • Wednesday, August 31st, the PK Silver “Ft Ward” class will meet at Ft. Ward at 10am as usual.
  • Thursday, September 1st, 6pm-until it gets dark, PK Move will be back at St. Elmo’s for Del Ray’s First Thursday! We will have a demo, some challenges for you to try, and lots of info to hand out. Please stop by and see us! (I heard St. Elmo’s is going to put some tasty, healthy smoothies on their menu too.)
  • In the words of the late, great David Bowie: “Ch-ch-ch-changes!” Beginning in September, the Hume Spring Class is moving to Monday! However, NO CLASS on Labor Day, September 5th. Our first Monday class will be September 12th at 10am and we will return to Hume Springs Park.

Many Thanks & News!

Hold on to Your Tea Cups!

PK Move had a photo shoot today with Altabs Photography.  We are preparing for the parkour art exhibit which will be at St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub from August 15th through September 5th.  The exhibit, part of PK Move’s Kick-Off Party and fundraising  event, features parkour movement and balances by PK Move students, friends, and coaches.  It is meant to demonstrate our class activities and highlight the joy anyone can experience through play and movement.  The show is being shot and curated by our own Mark Albert C. Altabano, a wonderful photographer, parkour fan, and supporter of PKMove. He has generously donated all his time and talent to this project. A huge shout out to Altabs Photography! Thank you!  PS Because we know you worry: no Royal Doulton was harmed during today’s photo session.

We need your support!

At PK Move, we offer no or low-cost functional fitness classes to those who could otherwise not afford them.  Our parkour-based program aims to build strength of body and mind, improve balance, flexibly and coordination, reconnect our participants with nature, and increase their confidence and creativity in a supportive environment. We’ve only been active in Alexandria for three months, yet so far, through community partnerships, we have been able to offer the following programs:

Two PK Silver classes per week (functional fitness classes for seniors)
Our PK School program assisted with parkour classes at the Wellness Day event at GWMS
PK Pink serves Breast cancer survivors with an exercise and support meet-up

Money-wise, our budgetary needs are relatively low, and with your support, we can largely cover our program costs with our August 27th “PKMove Kick-Off” fundraising event.

Eventbrite - PK Move Kick-Off Party

For $30 per person, we’re offering you a night out on the town with two drinks (beer/wine/soft drinks), delicious food, live music from the Delaney Hall Band, an art exhibit, and more!  We only need 200 friends to purchase tickets and join us for a FUN night out.  This will help us meet our budget, allowing us to continue to share the transformative power of parkour with those in our community who would benefit the most.  Please join us to build a healthier, stronger  Alexandria. Purchase your tickets today and share with friends and bring a group. We are very grateful and thank you for your support! This thermometer graphic shows our progress toward our goals!
